So Mayte Garcia has decided to release a biography, detailing her marriage to Prince with her spokesman insinuating a possible Christmas release. Prince Fam are split on the news. Some think she's within her rights to tell 'her story', whilst many think she stood keep schtum about her relationship with Prince and stop trying to keep relevant and making money off his name.
Prince and Mayte (marital bliss) |
When the news broke out last month that
Mayte was writing a "tell-all" book, I was angry at first, but
not surprised. An earlier interview with the Daily Mirror suggested
thirst (no disrespect intended) for public relevance as 90 per cent
of the published article referred to Prince and their relationship; how strange it was, how it "messed her up", but she'll always
love him because "he's a great guy" yet she 'refuses to be known
as merely "Princes ex-wife"'.
Mayte's Exclusive Interview With The Daily Mirror June 13th 2015
Since her marriage to Prince ended in
2000, Mayte has carved a career for herself as an actress,
choreographer, as well as a cast member of reality show Hollywood
Exes. She has a leading role coming up in a new US TV series, so my
question is Why Now? If you've got good things going on in your life and your more than just the ex wife of a musical legend, why are you dragging up the dirt of a marriage that ended 15 years ago and gave you a foot in the door of your career?
Mayte; Older, Still Beautiful But Is She Wiser? |
Most readers of this book will be read
by Prince fans or people who want an insight of the enigma because (with no disrespect intended – part 2) she's not known widely for
anything else but being his former dancer and wife. As a fan, I want to know
how this genius unwinds when music is constantly flowing through his
veins, stories that reflect his sense of humour, the inspirations
behind all of his songs and such as. I don't want to read the nitty
gritty details of his sex life and personal secrets he may be
embarrassed by. Mayte may always love him, but just detailing the
scripted "perfect picture" will not sell books. Publishers want
the dirt, the weirdness, the story that will blow the public
perception of Prince apart. I'm not saying he doesn't have his
faults and hasn't screwed with the emotions of a few people off over
the years, but in my opinion, if Prince treated her good during their
relationship, no matter how weird it was, and she genuinely still
loves and respects him, why would she need to sell-out on him?
Prince to Mayte - "So you wanna write books now, huh?" |
One thing I know for certain though, if
this book trashes Prince, she will face the wrath of his ever-loyal
fans. Many whom have supported her following their divorce. The majority
of her own fan base are Prince fans, so no matter how many hot roles she
has lined up, 'diss the Prince and you will be dismissed'. Another
thing... By promising a "tell-all" book, Mayte has stamped her
story. Should (and I hate this thought) Prince die before she does,
she can do TV interviews, reveal unseen photos, but there will be no
extra bits to add to the story of her life with him, as she's told
it ALL to everyone already.
